The noted Armenian theatre actor Vahram Papazyan was a star of the Soviet stage from 1920s to 1950s. His \'Othello\' in particular was an enormous hit with which the actor toured across the USSR. In 1932 he performed in this play on the stage of the \'Odeon\' theatre in Paris to great acclaim. Semerdjian made a number of publicity shots of Papazyan - both in and out of the role. Some of these were printed and distributed as photo-postacrds. The photographs are very tightly cropped, to emphasize Papazyan\'s highly dramatic and classically \'Armenian\' features. |
