Burleson Harnden, Betsy

1960s-90s (active)
Nationality: American
Place of Activity: USA

Burleson Harnden was an active photographer in New Orleans, USA between the 1960s and 70s. She completed a dissertation on the Life and Work of August Sander at the University of Florida in 1973, whose influence is palpable in her photography.

Harnden’s documentary photographs generally depict the artistic and music scene of New Orleans. Many of her known images are devoted to the daily life of black people in the South as well as portraits of children. All of these works display an exceptional sensitivity towards their subject matter.

It appears that after the 70s, Harnden mostly stopped exhibiting and publishing and little biographical information has come to light about her work and life in the last three decades.
